Girls Varsity Swimming · Jacket Swimmers Busy Heading Toward Sections

The Jacket Girls Swim Team has been very busy the last week! The team headed to Grand Rapids for the Section True Team Meet last Saturday, and headed south to the University of Minnesota Morris for a dual with Morris Area/Minnewaska on Tuesday.
Dena Fischer took 1st place in diving, and Madison Ruther placed 8th. Irene Mursu had the last podium finish, placing 6th in the 200 IM.
The Jackets had a handful of top 16 finishes, which is hopefully an indicator at a chance at swimming the second day of sections. Lucy Schultz came in 16th in the 200 free. Olivea McDonald placed 14th in the 500 free and 16th in the 100 breast. And Irene Mursu came in 9th in the 100 back.
The Jackets also had two more swimmers qualify for sections. Oakley McNair qualified in the 200 free, her first event this season. And Shanetta Reitmeyer qualified for the 200 IM, her first event ever. The team currently has 11 girls qualified for the section meet.
1. Grand Rapids 1423.5
2. Detroit Lakes 1261.5
3. Park Rapids 1256
4. Bemidji 1080
5. Fergus Falls 856.5
6. Thief River Falls 819.5
7. Warroad/Roseau/Greenbush/Middle River 607
8. Perham/New York Mills/Henning 495
Senior Diver, Dena Fischer, broke the school 6-dive record by 28.25 points, setting a new record of 262.45 points. She was just over a point shy of breaking the pool record, and she took 1st place. This was a remarkable way to finish her very last 6-dive meet!
Irene Mursu won both the 200 free and the 100 fly. The 200 free was an all-time PR by three seconds. And Olivea McDonald won the 100 breast with a season PR by 2 seconds.
With the last regular season meet behind us, the team gets a little smaller as we head into the last week before conference. The stakes get higher and the work gets harder over this next week, and some members of the team will have their final opportunity to qualify for sections next Friday. The Mid-State Conference meet is in Detroit Lakes, with diving starting at 3:30 p.m. and swimming starting at about 6 p.m.
Morris-Minnewaska 108.5 – Perham/New York Mills/Henning 72.5
